Maxxis Planning New 2009 Additions to Motorcycle Range
Maxxis says it plans to continue its aggressive growth strategy for the UK motorcycle market, and to do so is this year introducing two new products aimed at budget conscious consumers. The company plans to further support tyre retailers through an ongoing marketing support strategy that includes the continuation of the brand’s presence in the British Motocross Championship, British Superbike Championship, Premiership football matches and many consumer focused events thought the country. All this comes, says Maxxis, on top of a sustained advertising and public relations campaign with leading consumer motorcycling publications.
Kicking off the revised Maxxis range for 2009 is the all-new MA-PD Presa Detour adventure sport tyre. The adventure sport sector of the motorcycle market has seen fantastic growth over the past two years, and Maxxis is looking to capitalise on its stunning off road pedigree with this latest offering. The Presa Detour has been designed to offer a high level of wet and dry grip on the tarmac by utilising large, stable, central blocks that, says Maxxis, won’t ‘squirm’ under aggressive breaking or acceleration. An extra wide groove pattern has been employed to maximise water dispersal in wet conditions; these extra wide grooves are also the key to the Detour’s grip when the going gets tough off road, as they enable the tread to self clean. A silica compound, which Maxxis says has been developed using knowledge gained from years of off road racing at the highest level worldwide, is said to ensure the Presa Detour returns low tread wear and long life – qualities demanded by serious adventure riders.
According to Maxxis, the MA-PD Presa Detour’s advanced construction makes it the perfect aftermarket direct replacement for leading adventure sport machinery, including BMW’s GS range, KTM Adventures, Triumph’s Tiger and Suzuki’s ever popular V-Strom, to name a few.
Also new for 2009 is an uprated, second-generation version of the range-topping Supermaxx Sport tyre, a tyre that has benefited from some very positive consumer press reviews in the mainstream UK motorcycle media. Maxxis has utilised the latest modular construction techniques to further improve on the tyre. The Supermaxx Sport now benefits from multi sectional construction, a quality that Maxxis says ensures longer life when used in short high temperature bursts at track days. Although predominantly developed as a high-speed aggressive road tyre for Supersport machines, Maxxis says it has seen more and more customers heading to the track to realise the full potential of their machines. This latest incarnation of the Supermaxx Sport radial utilises mono spiral Kevlar belt technology to maintain tyre uniformity at high speeds and ensure even load distribution between high-speed cornering and straight-line performance.
The second generation Supermaxx Sport also features a tread pattern and distinct angular profile that Maxxis says allows quick, precise and responsive handling. The ultra-sticky Silica compound has been specifically formulated for optimum traction in Europe’s varied wet and dry conditions, while also allowing for cooler initial running temperatures and maximum grip for both road and track use.
