Marangoni MiTo Goes Flat Out

Just a couple of months after its debut at November’s Essen Motor Show, Tyres & Accessories has heard that Marangoni’s souped-up 233 bhp Alfa Romeo MiTo project car recently encountered an altogether more normal problem. Yes, you guessed it, the MiTo’s specialist Mythos tyres decided to suck up a nail. However, all was not lost as company representatives decided to practice what they preach and make use of their own lifetime warranty.

The rogue nail attacked the MiTo’s special “fire red” 18-inch Marangoni Mythos tyres during a recent test drive by a leading consumer press title at Bruntingthorpe Test Ground. Unbeknown to the test drivers, the puncture occurred just one week and only 1,000 miles after this set of tyres had been fitted. The puncture only became apparent when preparing the car for a special press photo shoot.

In this situation, most customers would face the daunting prospect of having to buy a replacement tyre, only a week after their original purchase. However, according to the company, this is certainly not the case with Marangoni. “For drivers this is a genuinely comprehensive warranty that covers not only any unlikely manufacturing defects but also irreparable accidental damage such as a rogue nail puncture,” Marangoni’s press representatives said in a statement. In the event that any damage is irreparable Marangoni commits to replacing the damaged tyre.

Subject to normal terms and conditions, any tyre with over 80 per cent of its tread remaining will be replaced completely free of charge. Even for tyres with less than 80 per cent of tread remaining there are discounts of 80, 60 and 40 per cent respectively, dependent upon wear. The Marangoni Lifetime Warranty applies on a worldwide basis throughout the life cycle of the tyre, regardless of the date of purchase.

In the case of the MiTo’s tyre issue, the damaged tyre was subsequently taken to Upton Tyre and Battery, Worcester where fortunately the minor damage was quickly and easily repaired by Mark Hodgkins. Had these circumstances applied to any genuine Marangoni user, and if a repair had not been possible, the customer would have got a replacement tyre courtesy of the Marangoni Lifetime Warranty.
