Construction of Kumho US Plant to Start This Year
Following a delay attributed to the economic slowdown, construction work on Kumho Tire’s new factory in the US state of Georgia is tentatively set to begin before the end of 2009. If work proceeds according to this schedule, the factory should be producing tyres in 2011, slightly more than a year after originally anticipated.
“We expect them to proceed with construction hopefully by the end of the year. They have assured us that they will be going forward with the project, it’s just a matter of a little time,” Bibb County commissioner, Elmo Richardson, told Macon, Georgia based television station 13WMAZ. The Bibb County Commission has approved the funding of four million dollars towards the facility, which will be returned to the county after the plant is in operation.
Commissioner Richardson, reports 12WMAZ, says the company is still deciding what type of tyre the plant will produce.
