China Sunsine Supplying Global Tyre Majors
China Sunsine Chemical Holdings is one of China’s largest rubber accelerator producers. At present the company possesses a total annual production capacity of 50,000 tons of rubber accelerators per annum, plus a further 10,000 tons of insoluble sulphur and 10,000 tons of anti-oxidant. These chemicals are sold to the leading global tyre manufacturers, including Bridgestone, Michelin, Goodyear, Continental, Pirelli, Sumitomo Rubber, Yokohama, Hankook, Cooper and Kumho. In China, the company supplies – amongst others – Giti Tire, Aeolus Tyre, Shanghai Tyre, Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber and Chengshan Corporation. Worldwide, China Sunsine boasts more than 400 customers in over 30 countries.
The chemicals produced by China Sunsine are sold under the “Sunsine” brand name and include the accelerators MBT, MBTS, CBS, TBBS, MBS, DCBS, DPG, TMTD and the antioxidant agent TMQ, vulcanizing agent Insoluble Sulphur and anti-scorching agent CTP. Production is carried out in China’s Shandong Province, near Heze City. In mid-2008 a new 5,000-ton anti-oxidant facility and a 10,000 tone integrated plant for sulphenamides entered operation. In November China Sunsine also announced the completion of a 3,000 ton capacity plant intended to provide value-added services to customers who request the mixing of accelerators with rubber and other additives to form rubber compounds, or masterbatches, of their own required specifications.
A strong emphasis is placed upon maintaining stringent quality controls, states China Sunsine. The company comments that the quality control measures implemented at different stages in the production process seek to ensure the quality of its products meet both the relevant standards and customer expectations. China Sunsine adds that its internal quality control measures, from the sourcing and procurement of raw materials to the delivery of our finished goods, adhere closely to the ISO guidelines. The company was accredited with ISO9001:2000 certification in July 2000.
A more recently attained certification is ISO14001:2004, awarded last year to China Sunsine. This environmental certification recognises the activities of the company’s environmental management system. China Sunsine has equipped each of its production facilities with a comprehensive wastewater treatment plant and a sulphur recycling facility. During the production process, potentially polluting wastewater is generated, however the treatment plants ensure all fluids fulfill all regulatory standards. Sulphur is also extracted from the hydrogen sulphide gas produced during the production process and recycled for re-use in the production process. Since the 2007 introduction of facilities to carry out this task, the recovery rate of hydrogen sulphide has reached 99 per cent. This recycling, in addition to being environmentally positive, helps China Sunsine save approximately RMB10-20 million (£1-2 million) per annum.
