Two Milestones Reached at Michelin’s Spartanburg Truck Tyre Plant
To mark the passing of two million work hours without a single serious injury amongst employees, Michelin North America’s truck tyre factory in Spartanburg, South Carolina was recently presented with a Michelin Global Safety Award. The facility thus becomes one of only four Michelin plants worldwide to earn this distinction. In a ceremony at the factory, Pete Selleck, president of Michelin’s worldwide truck tyre business and member of Michelin Group Executive Council, presented the award to plant manager, Tom Whalen.
“Within the Michelin manufacturing family, the Spartanburg plant is a shining example for its safety record,” said Selleck. “The Spartanburg team has implemented programs here that ensure the safest possible manufacturing operation by rewarding safe behaviours. It’s evident this plant demonstrates one of Michelin’s core values – respect for people – every day.”
In addition to the safety award presentation, the Spartanburg facility also celebrated reaching another significant milestone – the production of its 50 millionth tyre. “In addition to their exemplary safety record, Spartanburg employees should be congratulated for their productivity efforts,” said Selleck. “Making 50 million of the industry’s highest quality tyres, and doing it in the safest manner possible, is something for which they can be very proud.”
