OTR Tyres Integrates Data Capture System
OTR Tyres is hoping to offer customers a chance to preserve the scarce supply of earthmover tyres by including a new tyre data capture system into its tyre management system, TotalTyreLogic. The company says that the new addition makes it the world’s first commercially available, fully electronic, inspection and tyre management system.
By managing a tyre’s tread and pressure in service, the casing life can be optimised to give maximum performance and minimum downtime or reduced working time. The data capture system, developed by OTR Tyres in partnership with Derbyshire-based Pneu-Logic is the first phase of a multi-phase technology programme planned between OTR and Pneu-Logic. It involves using a handheld device to capture electronically and transmit tyre pressure and tread depth and wirelessly input it into OTR’s TyreLogic system. Subsequent phases will include a unique RFID tyre identification service which will be fully integrated into the handheld devices and will allow complete ‘cradle-to-grave’ tyre tracking.
Graeme Manning, commercial director for OTR Tyres states, “With this new technology, our customers will have complete visibility of the management of their tyres on a real time basis. In the current economic climate, it is vital to constantly monitor and optimise tyre usage to maximise uptime and profitability. We believe that combining Pneu-Logic’s technology and OTR’s knowledge and experience of earthmover tyres will allow us to deliver an exciting range of leading edge products and services to our customers.”
The new OTR probe features automated and motorised tread depth measurement up to 130 mm and pressure measurement up to 190 PSI. The rugged design includes a large area foot, to span the wide tread of large off the road tyres and will communicate via a Bluetooth Serial connection to electronically send its measurements to PDA, PC or Smartphone.
