Hankook to Sponsor Scottish Rally Championship

Next year the MSA Scottish Rally Championship will gain the backing of Hankook Tire – and the manufacturer is apparently already considering extending the sponsorship deal further. Hankook replaces the County Saab motor group, following five years’ involvement, as the championship’s main sponsor.

“We are delighted to be focusing our attention in 2009 on the Scottish Rally Championship,” said Hankook motorsport manager Mike Patterson. “The series attracts some intense competition and the enthusiasm and professionalism of the organising team has been instrumental in finalising this deal.”

Financial details of the commitment to the eight-round championship have not been disclosed, however Hankook’s involvement is said to encompass a fully supported Group N Championship and expanded Junior training programme, including a fully funded prize drive on a European or Far East event.

Commenting on the agreement, SRC chairman Campbell Roy said: “We are delighted to have concluded this groundbreaking deal with such a high-profile international company. Hankook brings a wealth of motorsport experience to the SRC and will undoubtedly assist us in further raising the profile of the sport in Scotland.”
