Dunlop, French Magazine Unveil New Series Plan
Dunlop and Performance French Cars Magazine have announced that the Dunlop Sport Maxx Production Cup will be introducing a new trophy for the 2009 season. The production cup has teamed together with Performance French Cars magazine to praise the best performing French car of the championship.
The Dunlop Sport Maxx Production Cup is part of the Dunlop Great & British Motorsport Festival. With the stated aim of “putting national motorsport back on the map,” Dunlop Great & British hosts three championships: Mini Challenge, Radical Sportscars and the Dunlop Sport Maxx Production Cup, over six weekends. The Production Cup introduces this new trophy following the success of French cars on the grid during the 2008 season. Renaultsport Megane R26, Renaultsport Clio and Peugeot 106 GTi were amongst the leading French cars with top rankings across the Sport Maxx classes.
The cup is placed as a feeder into the British Touring Car Championships, growing in size during 2008 it offers close racing across three classes. The 2009 season will feature six action-packed ‘Great and British Festival’ weekends at top UK circuits. The Performance French Cars Cup will be presented at the end of the championship to the highest ranking French car on the grids during 2009.
“We realised that we were seeing a wide range of French cars on our grids during 2008. It seemed like a natural progression to integrate a cup specifically for these cars” said Dunlop spokesperson James Bailey. “The trophy will add an extra element of competition into the race for the French car drivers.”
“We want to see more French cars on the grid in 2009 and this new trophy gives an added extra to Renault, Citroën and Peugeot drivers.” James concluded.
Adam Tait, of Performance French Cars magazine, added, “Performance French Cars is proud to be supporting the 2009 Dunlop Sport Maxx Production Cup and we wish those flying the Renault, Citroen and Peugeot flags the very best of luck. Make sure you don’t miss our race coverage when the season gets underway.”
