Tyre Chain Hopes to Make a Killing with Sudden Death Insurance
Think those worn tyres will do you for a few more months? Perhaps, but in New Zealand a fast fit chain has introduced a product that should make motorists reluctant to fork out for replacement tyres think again. Alongside its tyre range, Tony’s Tyre Service is offering insurance policies covering unexpected death.
The product has been on offer for several months now, but it has only recently attracted the attention of national media. When contacted by the Dominion Post newspaper, company general manager Steve Lange said the product was called “Tony’s Tyre Service For Life” and drew on the company’s large customer base. The policies were offered with insurance company Pinnacle Life and customers could sign up online.
“With tyres being a huge safety component of the vehicle, I thought it would be a nice fit,” said Lange, adding that the policies would beat “any price in town”. While Lange said that the policy website had received high numbers of hits, he did not disclosed how many had been purchased.
