Pirelli First Across the Line at the 2008 FIA GT Season Finale
The final round of this year’s FIA GT Championship, which took place on the new Argentine circuit near Mendoza, saw a victory from the PZero Racing-equipped Saleen S-7R from Longin-Kumpen (PeKa Racing). This triumph compensated the Belgian squad for the bad luck they endured earlier in the season, and highlighted the partnership between the American supercar and Pirelli tyres: a combination that has, comments Pirelli, been winning since 2004.
“I’m obviously very pleased to end the season in this way,” said Bert Longin, the 43-year-old Belgian who claimed a number of victories together with Pirelli and Kumpen at the wheel of a Corvette in 2005. “It’s a win that we could and should have claimed in other places as well, such as Bucharest and Zolder, but here everything finally came good for us, the PZero Racing tyres were extremely efficient, and myself and Kumpen were able to do the rest…”
The Pirelli-equipped GT2 cars had not experienced the best of luck in Argentina. The best-placed PZero Racing contender was the Malucelli-Ruberti Ferrari 430 GTC (BMS-Scuderia Italia), which was sixth in class and 11th overall.
