Deer, oh Dear
We may have the pound and the credit crisis to worry about, but at least those in the fast fit industry in our part of the world need not lose sleep over an unexpected hazard encountered by employees and customers at a tyre service centre in South Carolina, US. As deer mating season continues in full swing, a buck burst into the Fort Hill outlet looking for love, but finding only tyres.
Barry Freeman, a seasoned hunter who runs the adjacent ‘Freemans Body Shop’ collision repair centre, warned bystanders to stay away from the animal. “If they hadn’t of gotten out of there, that deer would’ve hurt someone,” he said. The deer appeared to have received leg injuries after falling into a work pit, however Freeman said despite efforts to follow the animal into the woods, he lost sight of it.
According to South Carolina Wildlife Officer Todd Campbell, this is the peak time for incidents of this nature. The mating season for deer is October through November, and bucks will often roam great distances to find a doe. “A buck’s territory is usually two or three miles,” he said. “It can get as big as 20 miles this time of year. “They don’t have any fear, any concern for people, buildings, anything. They’ve got their minds on one thing, if you know what I mean.”
