Counterfeit Dunlop Tyres Discovered in Philippines Raid
The Philippine government’s Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group (PASG) has raided a warehouse on the northern island of Luzon, seizing some 10 million peso (£133,500) of counterfeit tyres and motorcycle spare parts. According to a PASG statement, the agencies raided the warehouse after receiving surveillance reports indicating the illegal nature of the activities within. The tyres confiscated from the warehouse are said to have been counterfeit Dunlop tyres.
“The presence of fake tyres in several outlets in Metro Manila may spell tragedy on the road,” said PASG head undersecretary Antonio A. Villar, Jr. “PASG should act on this, and at the same time help other authorities put to end the illegal practice of infringement of the Intellectual Property Rights law.
“Human error and mechanical malfunction may not always be the causes of vehicular accidents. Sometimes, fake and illegally manufactured tyres bearing quality brand names could well be the offshoot of road mishaps,” he added.
