Cooper Zeon RS3 Fitted on ROUSH Mustangs
Cooper has announced that its new Zeon RS3 tyre will be fitted for the ROUSH Stage 3 and P51B Mustangs. The company claims that the tyre is a must “for the Ford Mustang enthusiast with an uncompromising need for maximum dry grip traction.” Based in Livonia, Michigan, ROUSH Performance provides an array of Ford Mustang and F-150 styling, handling and performance upgrades, in addition to a complete line of performance parts and crate engines. Cooper is its official tyre brand.
Chuck Yurkovich, vice president of Global Technology for Cooper Tire, stated that, “The Cooper Zeon RS3 is the latest innovation to develop from Cooper Tire’s exclusive relationship with ROUSH Performance. The RS3 is the perfect compliment to the performance characteristics valued by true ROUSH Performance enthusiasts.” The RS3 comes in a 275/40ZR18 with a UTQG tread wear/traction/temperature rating of 220-AA-A, and is available through ROUSH Performance or through Cooper Tire dealers.
Cooper engineers specifically designed the DOT-approved radial with large outside shoulder and intermediate tread blocks for greater steering response and high levels of cornering force. The non-directional and asymmetrical design of the tyre hope to yield better dry performance, wet traction and control.
The tyre’s “race inspired” construction includes an R-Tech Technology mould profile and silica tread compound. R-Tech optimises the contact patch geometry to provide greater responsiveness and improved cornering forces, while the silica tread enhances grip for dry limit handling. Cooper says that the tyre also maintains an exceptional level of wet performance, making it well suited for both high-performance applications and street driving.
The Zeon RS3 also has laterally-oriented shoulder grooves and uniform element geometry that should help to provide even tread wear. More lateral grooves on the inside of the tire maintain wet performance while more rubber on the outside tread pattern creates increased dry handling and cornering ability.
Additional tread design features include three wide circumferential grooves for hydroplane resistance and variable draft groove walls to minimize irregular wear.
