Blimp Meets Wiener – a Day to Remember
Pirelli may gain global recognition through its artistic and iconic calendar, but Goodyear has the blimp – and a 58 metre long airship floating in the sky is a spectacular way for the tyre major to promote its brand. The company has operated blimps since 1925 and currently has three in service. One of these airships, the Spirit of Goodyear, recently became the first Goodyear blimp to meet another illustrious American icon – the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.
The hot dog on wheels first hit the streets in 1936 and today travels the length and breadth of the US handing out Wienerwhistles, toy whistles shaped like the famous vehicle. The Wienermobile, while visiting Akron, Ohio in support of the Downtown Akron Partnership, drove on its Goodyear Unisteel G647 RSS tyres to nearby Suffield to visit the blimp and enjoy the rare novelty of being parked alongside a similarly shaped vehicle. It is, regrettably, not known if Wienerwhistles, tyres, or even calendars were handed out to those in attendance.
