New Size Added to Michelin X Terminal-T Range
The popular Michelin range X Terminal-T tyres is being expanded through the addition of a 310/80R22.5 fitment to the already available line-up of specialist tyres designed primarily for fitment to tractor units, tugs and trailers used for short-distance movements in ports and freight terminals.
Suitable for fitment in any axle position, Michelin reports that its new 310/80R22.5 X Terminal-T tyre incorporates an advanced industrial casing design and features a unique blend of materials, which deliver even tread wear and low operating costs, along with good machine and payload protection from shock and vibration. This new size can easily be fitted in place of 11R22.5 and 295/80R22.5 sizes in particular, as their rolling circumferences are very similar and the rim widths are identical at 8.25 or 9.00 inches.
The X Terminal-T range, adds Michelin, offers a lifespan at least twice as long as a conventional 11R22.5 truck tyre when used in port and freight terminal environments. It also greatly reduces rolling resistance when compared to a solid tyre, which in turn cuts fuel consumption and therefore CO2 emissions. Another key benefit of this new size in the X Terminal-T line-up is that its load capacity far exceeds that of regular 11R22.5 truck tyres. At 40 km/h with a pressure of 10 bars, each tyre can carry a load of 6,900 kg, while a truck tyre inflated to 10 bars can carry approximately 4,300 kg at the same speed.
As a tubeless tyre, the Michelin X Terminal-T can be easily fitted on a drop centre rim. It has many advantages over a tube type tyre (fitted on a multi-piece rim) including simple and rapid assembly, heightened safety (no projection of rings) and reduced overall size, which provides the possibility of fitting disc brakes. The new size X Terminal-T tyre is both repairable and retreadable, and is available in Europe with immediate effect, and from November 2008 in the USA, Africa, Middle East and Asia.
