Grouptyre Improves Wales and the South West Tyre Distribution
Grouptyre has expanded its Wales and South West tyre distribution service through the expansion of member company King David Tyres. The new additional distribution centres will be place in St. Clears, near Carmarthen, and St. Austell, Cornwall to provide multiple same-day deliveries within the South Wales M4 corridor and the valleys and throughout Cornwall.
King David Tyres is a family-owned business established over 30 years and operates retail and wholesale depots in various locations in South Wales, Devon and Cornwall. It serves a large territory incorporating Devon, Cornwall, Avon, Bristol, Somerset, Mid Wales and South Wales, as well as parts of Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.
The wholesale business is currently based in Newport, with distribution centres in Neath, Tredegar, and Exeter, where King David Tyres opened its first stand alone wholesale warehouse in 2002. Ongoing expansion saw the company redevelop its Newport premises last year to create a new headquarters building, extra warehouse space and offices, a training facility and meeting rooms, and it is now upgrading its Neath wholesale and retail operation.
The new 14,000 sq ft single story distribution centre with mezzanine in St. Austell serves the whole of Cornwall and has been scheduled to open in early November. The company is now reorganising delivery schedules so that its Exeter depot will be able to offer an improved same-day service to customers in the Plymouth, Torbay, Somerset and north Devon area, while all customers in Cornwall will benefit from twice a day, same-day deliveries.
In St. Clears King David Tyres has invested in a new 20,000 sq ft wholesale warehouse and is expanding its delivery fleet to provide at least twice a day deliveries to customers throughout west Wales. While the facility is now up and running, it will not be operating to its full potential until the improvements in Neath have been completed. The existing Neath warehouse is to be demolished and replaced by a new, larger distribution and retail centre, and while the redevelopment work is taking place the Neath team will be based temporarily at the St. Clears warehouse.
To support its improved delivery offering and ensure ready availability of stock, King David Tyres is introducing an inter-company trunker lorry service to move stock around its various wholesale locations.
“We are selling more tyres and need greater storage capacity and a bigger fleet to meet our customers’ needs, so the acquisition of these two new wholesale facilities and the redevelopment work we are undertaking in Neath will enhance our overall stockholding capability, while the extra vehicles will enable us to provide a much-improved delivery service throughout our territory,” says sales operations manager Paul Tucker.
