Michelin Acknowledged For Supply to US Military
Two Michelin North America divisions have been acknowledged by the US military for their tyre quality and delivery service. The Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC) awarded Michelin Americas Truck Tires (MATT) and Michelin Aircraft Tire Co. (MATC) Best Value Medal silver awards August 26.
Michelin is one of 89 companies among the DSCC’s 82,000 suppliers to receive the military’s Best Value Medal. The military’s Best Value Medal is awarded to companies that have demonstrated exceptional quality and delivery performance as measured by the Automated Best Value System (ABVS), a computerised system that collects a vendor’s past performance data and translates it into a numeric score ranging from zero to a perfect 100.
To be eligible to receive an ABVS award, a supplier must have shipped 50 or more contract line items for the DSCC during a 12-month rating period. To qualify for a gold medal, a supplier must have a perfect score of 100. A score of 99.0 through 99.9 earned silver, and those with scores ranging from a 98.0 through 98.9 were awarded bronze medals.
“This award reflects many months of coordinated effort by Michelin’s military tyre team, as well as our logistics subcontractor, Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC),” said Jim Griese, director of North American military products for Michelin Americas Truck Tires. “We realise the critical nature of supplying parts for US military operations around the world, and we hope this award further validates DSCC’s selection of Michelin for its Ground Tire Privatization Initiative contract last year.”
Since winning the contract, MATT has processed nearly 38,000 orders and has delivered more than 352,000 tyres to 1,400 locations worldwide. Michelin manages an inventory of over 330 line items manufactured by Michelin and other major tire manufacturers and consistently meets or exceeds the standard established by DSCC for on-time deliveries.
“MATC is extremely proud of our performance record with the Land Tires Privatization Initiative contract,” said Brett Carnes, director of North American military sales for Michelin Aircraft Tires. “We appreciate the US government putting its trust in Michelin to get the right aircraft tyre to our men and women in the armed services while they concentrate on their mission at hand. It is an honour to be awarded the Silver Best Value Medal.”
MATC supplies aircraft tyres to the US military, utilising their supply chain solutions partner, Lockheed Martin MS2. Currently delivering about 80,000 military aircraft tyres per year to the US Air Force and US Army, Michelin is averaging about three days to deliver tyres anywhere in the world, including the current theatres of operation, with a nearly 99 per cent on-time record.
