Melbourne Recycling Plant Damaged by Fire
A fire whose cause is being treated as suspicious has ripped through a tyre recycling plant in south-west Melbourne. It is thought that the blaze has caused 120,000 Australian dollars’ (52,700 pounds sterling) worth of damage.
Laurie Crowther – the Metropolitan Fire Brigade’s spokesman – said on Thursday that the front roller door had been forced open, leading to the suspicion of foul-play. He also stated that, “A very good internal attack by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using foam stopped the potential for toxic smoke from the burning tyres spreading across the area.” Fifty firefighters fought to control the fire, which succumbed at around the 45-minute mark.
