First European Sales of Laugfs Solid Tyres
Europe received its first shipment of tyres from Sri Lanka’s Laugfs Rubber Corporation in early September. The European market thus joins the company’s growing international network, which includes a holding company in Hong Kong and distribution centres in North America, Canada, Australia and the Middle East.
The Colombo based company, which in 2007 acquired and upgraded the facilities belonging to the former Sri Lanka Rubber Export Manufacturing Corporation, has set itself the goal of leveraging the advantages Sri Lanka has as a major rubber producer in order to develop a thriving solid tyre export business. Production commenced last year with an output of only 15 tonnes per day, and this will be gradually enhanced to 100 tonnes per day by the first quarter of 2009. This amounts to exports of 200 containers per month from Sri Lanka to the world market under the Laugfs Brand, with sales going to both OEM and replacement tyre customers.
