Smithers Appoints VP of Polymer Analysis
Smithers Scientific Services (SSS) Inc. has appointed Daniel J. Riley as vice president of polymer analysis, a newly created position. According to the company, Riley (37) will assume responsibility for all SSS Akron Laboratory businesses, including physical/mechanical testing, analytical testing, tyre service production and a new polymer consulting group. “Dan brings to Smithers significant experience in scientific management, product development and business acumen that will enhance our well-earned reputation of providing creative solutions for our global client base,” said Jay H. Lutz, SSS vice president and chief operating officer.
Before joining Smithers, Riley served as global product development and technical service manager for the Specialty Products and Adhesives Division of Ashland Inc., a diversified chemical company based in Covington, Kentucky. He had been with Ashland for nearly 11 years.
Riley received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Radford University; an MBA with emphasis in marketing and finance from The Ohio State University; and a Ph.D. in polymer chemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia.
