Pirelli’s Winter Range Proud to Be Versatile
In addition to the Sottozero, discussed on Tyrepress.com last month, Pirelli has a range of tyres for fitment on cars, sports utility vehicles and vans, and while winter capability is the obvious primary function of the series, the company is proud of the diversity of its seasonal collection.
The winter Snowsport – for passenger cars – attempts to use its versatility to its advantage. Whilst combining excellent traction and braking on snow, it also promises to offer improved handling in both wet and dry conditions, all the while maintaining performance levels. The full silica mixture and the design with Cap and Base technology ensure performance at low temperatures, whilst the four longitudinal channels provide superb aquaplaning resistance.
The 190-210-240 Snowsport range, including selected run flat sizes, comprises aspect ratios 35 to 70 Series, wheel diameter codes 14 to 18 and speed codes T, H and V.
Designed to fit a wide range of vehicles, from city cars to medium / high powered cars, including MPVs, the Snowcontrol, with its directional tread pattern and patented geometry, is designed to maximise traction and safety in all winter conditions. Snowcontrol offers superior winter performance and wear resistance, due to the use of ACT (Adaptive Compound Technology) mixtures.
The winter 160 and 190 Snowcontrol range includes aspect ratios 55 to 80 Series, wheel diameter codes 13 to 16 and speed codes Q and T.
Pirelli’s SUV range
Specifically designed to enhance the low-temperature performance of fast, luxury SUVs, Scorpion Ice & Snow – part of the “Scorpion by Pirelli” portfolio – is Pirelli’s solution to ensure maximum mobility. Safety and comfort are prioritised in the tyre design and the company assures full control, even under the most demanding conditions.
Scorpion Ice & Snow attempts to provide great versatility and balance, working well at low temperature, even on gravel and rough surfaces. Its strength is derived from the specialised compound and profile, incorporating the technological know-how and experience acquired in the development process of the “Scorpion by Pirelli” off-road range.
Scorpion Ice & Snow is produced in aspect ratios 35 to 75 Series, wheel diameter codes 15 to 21 and speed ratings up to ‘V’ (240 km/h, 150 mph).
Winter van option
The aggressive tread pattern and special compound developed for Chrono Winter guarantee traction and manoeuvrability on all snow-covered surfaces. A reinforced structure permits levels of performance that the Italian group claims are maintained even when the vehicle is fully laden. Driving safety combined with low noise levels make the Chrono Winter a realistic option when tackling the most extreme road conditions.
The tyre is available in wheel diameter codes 14 to 16 and speed ratings up to “T” (190 km/h, 118 mph).
