McCain Mocks Obama’s Tyre Plea
Following US-presidential candidate Barack Obama’s fuel-saving tip of keeping tyres inflated (as reported on Tyrepress.com last week), the Democrat’s Republican rival, John McCain and his campaign staff have issued a fundraising email mocking the suggestion.
The email reads: “John McCain says we need offshore oil drilling and we need it now. Senator Barack Obama has consistently opposed offshore drilling — calling it a “gimmick.” Senator Obama’s solution to high gas prices is telling Americans to make sure their tyres are inflated.
“Today, I’m asking for your help in putting Senator Obama’s “tyre gauge” energy policy to the test. With an immediate donation of $25 or more, we will send you an “Obama Energy Plan” tyre pressure gauge. Will simply inflating your tyres reduce the financial burden of high gas prices on your wallet?”
The Obama camp responded by pointing out two Republican Governers – Arnold Schwarzenegger and Charlie Crist – who have supported tyre inflation campaigns in the past, while even organisations such as NASCAR have urged drivers “to focus on simple things like proper tyre pressure to…increase fuel economy.”
US political commentators have picked apart the email’s suggestion that tyre inflation is the be all and end all of Obama’s energy policy.
