Maxxis Warms Up the Colder Months
For the upcoming cold months Maxxis rolls out a number of solutions to the hazards of winter driving, all of which feature the Maxxis soft tread winter compound and a design that facilitates water dispersal and snow and slush removal.
Passenger cars can benefit from the MA-W1 Wintermaxx, a high performance tyre Maxxis states offers a quiet ride combined with traction that comes into its own in snowy weather. The tread is a zigzag pattern unidirectional design with multiple grooves for effective water drainage and snow removal. The footprint on the MA-W1 has been optimised for secure handling and braking on wet, icy or snow covered roads. The MA-W1 is available in a wide range of size configurations from 13-inches up to a V rated 17-inch variation.
Those whose job keeps them on the road in inclement conditions know the importance of a tyre that permits ‘business as usual’ in these times, and in response to this important need Maxxis has developed the MA-W2 Wintermaxx line up for the light commercial vehicle segment.
The symmetrical tread on the MA-W2, says Maxxis, offers braking, water dispersal and snow removal capabilities that are second to none. Extensive siping provides biting edges, enabling uncompromised acceleration and braking performance on icy roads. Sizes for the MA-W2 start at 13-inches and go up to 16-inches.
With a unidirectional zigzag design in the shoulder area and high density S-type sipes, the MA-PW Presa Snow tyre delivers grip and traction on snowy terrain plus superb wet and straight-line stability. Additional deep V-grooves are designed to expel water more efficiently for improved wet weather handling. Furthermore, says Maxxis, the special, low-noise tread pattern pitch sequence also ensures an ultra-quiet ride.
For those anticipating a little more white stuff than the average driver, Maxxis has the studable MA-SPW Presa Wintermaxx. The high level of siping provides effective water dispersal and the zigzag multi-pitched tread blocks deliver traction when it is most needed. The provision of stud pin holes offers drivers the further option of extra grip if road conditions really do take a turn for the worse. Yet in spite of what the weather throws our way, Maxxis claims the random pitch arrangement of the MA-SPW Presa Wintermaxx tread allows for a quiet and comfortable ride. The T speed rated Presa Wintermaxx is available in sizes from 13-inches right up to 18-inches.
The final tyre in the 2008 Maxxis winter line up is the MA-SW Victra Snow, a product specifically developed for 4×4 vehicles. The unidirectional Victra Snow is designed with grooves both in the centre tread and shoulder area, and tread blocks are arranged in a zigzag pattern for steering stability. A plethora of lateral sipes are built into the tyre. The MA-SW Victra Snow can be obtained in H, T or V speed ratings, depending on rim size; the Victra Snow is suitable for 4x4s with 15 to 16-inch rims.
In the UK the Maxxis winter weather range – which the manufacturer says has proved its credentials throughout Europe – is available exclusively through Grouptyre.
