Indian Rubber Exports Rise 38% in April-July
India’s natural rubber exports are said to have increased 38 per cent between April and July this year, according to estimates from the country’s Rubber Board. A total of 23,998 were exported during the period as opposed to 14,816 tonnes in the same period of the previous financial year. Favourable global market conditions in July led to a total of 10,862 tonnes of natural rubber exported during this month alone.
Total imports for the same period, the first four months of the 2008-09 financial year were 23,782 tonnes as against 28,315 tonnes in the same period last year. This equates to a 16 per cent drop in imports, however India’s Business Standard newspaper comments that greater quantities are now likely to be imported as global natural rubber prices are Rs 10 to 11 (£0.12 to 0.14) per kilogram lower than current Indian prices.
