Drifting With Federal Tires
Drifting has seen a rapid growth in popularity in recent years in United Kingdom, and the 2008 European Drifting Championship attracted large numbers of competitors and fans to the Knockhill Circuit in Scotland. The racing action was reported to be top notch all weekend during the 17th and 18th of May, providing an exhilarating atmosphere for spectators. For Federal Tires, these events, in which British duo Ben Broke-Smith and Phil Morrison performed spectacularly, help the company draw closer to the growing enthusiast market for high performance tyres.
The weekend drew all manner of petrol head out of the woodwork, lured by the smell of burning rubber as it were to two days of burnouts, cruising and admiring the metal on display. Phil, from Driftworks, showed off his Skyline’s paint and body work, seizing much attention.
The tension fermented as the vehicles became familiar with the course and the engines warmed up. The top 16 showdown, says Federal, was “awesome” from start to finish; the precise balance of power, braking and steering of Phil’s Skyline proved to be an attention grabber. On the opposite side of the coin was Ben broke-Smith, who continued to impress with his drifting skills secured a win with some seriously good driving and an enormous trail of smoke from his vehicle’s rear tyres by pairing against James “Bladey” Grimsey on their allocated two runs in a knockout formation.
“The Federal 595RS-R was a competitive high performance tyre in track use, giving amazing stability and traction, whilst maintaining a very progressive balance between grip and drift,” said the drivers. “We have tested many other tyres in our many years of drifting, and can confidently say that no other tyre comes close to it. I can’t express enough gratitude for their dedication in pursuit of manufacturing the best combined track and drift tyre comes from a genuine passion for performance tyre technology. We are very proud to support, and have support of Federal Tires, as the 595RS-R makes its stamp on the world.”
The company reports that the Federal 595RS-R is fast becoming known as the best drifting tyre in Europe, and has been the subject of considerable interest from UK competitors. Driftworks has also played a part in the development of the tyre’s reputation, its vehicles being RS-R shod since mid 2006. It is also the tyre that led Phil to bag the momentous D1GB championship.
