Bandag’s New Application Specific Tyre At Home in Harsh Conditions
On the market from Bandag is a replacement to its BWBT (E) trailer tyre. Called the BTR-WB, the new product is a regional wide base ECL the company says has benefited from exhaustive testing and performs superbly in the most severe circumstances.
Wide base trailer tyres used in regional applications have a tough life and have to cope with endless tight turns and manoeuvring. The result of this can often be irregular wear patterns, and Bandag has this phenomenon in mind when it began developing the BTR-WB application specific trailer product. Several prototypes, hundreds of test tyres and many millions of test kilometres later, Bandag has introduced a product it is confident performs well in all circumstances.
A new version of Bandag’s tried and proven ECL platform, with longer and thinner skirts, is used in the new J speed rated tyre – Bandag states the ECL platform offers a perfect match to the 385/65R22.5 casing while the longer skirts give the tyre the appearance of a new product. Furthermore, the shoulders of the BTR-WB have been robustly designed to offer resistance to scrubbing and the tread footprint is intended to optimise braking ability, mileage and evenness of wear over the tyre’s entire service life.
In terms of compound, the retreader states it made no compromises in its development – many different options were tested and evaluated before the right compound was finally selected. The result, says Bandag, is a compound that combines excellent mileage with a high level of resistance to tearing and cuts.
