200 UK Jobs Gone With Closure of Michelin Service Centre
The Manchester based shared service centre operated by Michelin has become a victim of outsourcing, with the resultant loss of 200 jobs. As of July the French manufacturer has opted to use the IT consultancy Logica to handle the centre’s tasks, with the work carried out in Spain and the Philippines.
When Tyres & Accessories spoke to a Michelin UK representative he expressed regret that the decision to close the Manchester site had been made, but could understand other options needed to be considered by the company. He added that the decision was made at a group level, not by Michelin in the UK. Employees are being given assistance in finding alternative jobs, he said, and redundancy packages on offer are above the minimum statutory requirements.
