Goodyear bringing a piece of NASCAR history to Goodwood
NASCAR is Goodyear’s single largest motorsport customer in North America, and the US tyre major holds the position of official tyre supplier until 2012. Every year the championship requires 150,000 Goodyear race tyres. The company’s relationship with NASCAR began in 1954, with the tyre alliance becoming official in 1997. In this time the sport has seen some iconic race drivers and cars, none more so than the legendary Bobby Allison, with 85 career wins placing him with the top drivers of all time.
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Allison’s 1983 NASCAR Winston Cup Win, his championship wining DiGard Racing Team stockcar will be on show at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and thanks to Goodyear the man himself will be doing the hill climb. Goodyear has especially imported a set of its innovative racing tyres from America to shod one of the cars built by the DiGard team, helping Bobby win 6 out of the 30 NASCAR races in the 1983 season to clinch the title.
The car will be on show courtesy of RCT Engineering from 11th to 13th July and can be found in the Cathedral Paddock.
