Federal Sponsors Top Drift Cup 2008 for Third Year
Federal has secured its sponsorship of this year’s Top Drift competition, giving its name to the trophy. The Federal Cup is one of drift racing’s premier contests, and is held on the West Coast of the USA. This is the third consecutive year in which Federal is the contest’s key sponsor, and the company has entered into the spirit of the exciting contest, in which drivers are judged on their ability to handle high-speed, long-distance slides around the racetrack.
Round Three of the Championship will take place towards the end of September and represents the beginning of the back straight of the contest in which Federal’s US dealer City Tires continues to service 13 of the 16 top drivers.
Reporting on the second round of the competition, which took place at the end of April, Federal conveyed its delight in both the spectacular nature of the sport and the opportunities afforded for the promotion of the brand’s products. A statement from the company said that, on the basis of its Top Drift showing, “Federal has proved the dominant tire brand capable of meeting the demands, all of which established a strong presence and awareness out there”.
But the company’s enthusiasm was not merely confined to corporate interest: “Hundreds of spectators flooded to the grandstand to get ready for more heart-pounding, edge-of-seat actions followed by a visual feast of retrofitting existing vehicles during the test session. The weekend wrap-up is real added value of entertainment!! We’ve seen plenty of burnouts scenes and were really smitten by the atmosphere of the authentic motorsports in drifting. There’s no doubt that both machines are very quick, very capable and very fun.”
“After the exhausted confrontation, the points and ranking as per participant scored has announced: Hawaiian new kid in town Ron Freitas held up his own with a lot of smoke in the 7th position next to Round One victor Forest Wang, who ended to 6th this time. Local hero Miki Frial finished in the 5th. On 2nd stage was Jeff Jones and 3rd place went to Tommy Roberts with his new “onevia”. Matt “Big Wing” Fields was laurelled with a champion cap to win the first podium.”
