MAK Launches New Wheels
Italian wheel manufacturer MAK used the Essen show to launch a number of new additions to its product range.
The first of these is the Corsa, designed with young customers in mind, hence its sporty appearance and attractive price/quality ratio. The wheel’s 20 spokes give the Corsa a light and modern look; the spokes are slim and tapered and the wheel is presented in a finish known as Ice Titan – dark grey for the rims, high sheen diamond for the spokes.
The Corsa is available for four and five stud fitments, maximising the number of 15″ and above fitments for which the wheel is suitable. It comes in four sizes: 6.5J15″, 7J16″, 7J17″ and 8J17″.
New wheel number two is the MAK Veloce – the name means ‘fast’ – and it boasts a stylish, 10 coupled spoke design with a “satin” finish. The spokes curve slightly and the design of the wheel is graceful and open.
Aimed at medium- and high-powered cars with a touch of elegance, the Veloce is available in sizes 5.5J14″, 6.5J15″, 6.5J16″, 7J17″ and 8J17″.
Wheels for SUVs
The third MAK wheel making its debut at Essen was the Arena – a wheel especially for the latest generation of SUVs and 4×4 vehicles and once more aimed at the younger driver.
It was designed by Italian stylist After Design and there are 20 thin and smooth spokes. In each of the gaps between the spokes, After Design has positioned a screw, which gives the Arena a sporty yet rugged style. The diamond finish of the rim contrasts with the hyper silver finish of the wheel and spokes, with the overall effect of making the wheel appear lighter and slighter.
Younger drivers of SUVs and 4x4s are looking to personalise their vehicles as well as show off their style. The Arena, believes MAK, fits this bill perfectly – there are two sizes in the range; 8.5J20″ and 9.5J20″.
An area of the market that has been experiencing growth – and which looks set to continue in this vein – is that of run-flat tyres and MAK’s first excursion into the run-flat aftermarket is the MAK Fuoco, for SUVs.
The Fuoco incorporates a special rim profile, approved by ETRTO, called the Hump EH2+, which allows the fitting of run-flat tyres. This is a market of considerable interest, says MAK, consisting as it does of prestigious car manufacturers (such as BMW, for example) and customers who have a high purchasing power.
Also designed by After Design, the Fuoco has five sturdy, diamond-finished spokes, which contrast with the “Ice Titan” grey base to enhance the appearance of these stylish vehicles.
Fuoco comes in three sizes; 8J20″, 9J20″ and 10.5J20″.
