Klarius’ ‘Cat’ Development Centre ‘on the Fast Track’
Klarius has reported that it has strengthened the range of services it offers with the introduction of a Fast Track Cat cell to its industry renowned development centre. The new five-strong team is reportedly able to rapidly develop high quality Catalytic Converters, built to On Board Diagnostic (OBD) compliance within a week, due to a range of well designed, bespoke production methods.
Klarius has been developing and manufacturing catalytic converters since 1993, but since last summer, the company has been overhauling its development processes in order to increase efficiency and productivity by introducing new equipment at its workshop and shortening production process lead-time. According to the company, the end result for its nationwide customer base, is the ability to add a new specification of catalytic converter, from client brief, to design and development, and finally production, ready for supply within a week from request.
The Fast Track cell is a micro-manufacturing plant, with the key strengths of flexibility and responsiveness to market demands, and technological advances in catalytic converters. In recent years, cars increasingly rely on OBD for engine and emission monitoring; it is becoming more important that Catalytic Converters meet the OE specifications in operation, in order to avoid problems that can lead to MOT failure or ‘MIL’ warning light illumination. The Fast Track cell builds cats that are designed to prevent gas emission test failure during MOT test, by effectively reducing the vehicles emissions, in line with original equipment standards, allowing the car to detect the correct emissions.
Head of the Development Centre at Klarius’ flagship Cheadle production and distribution site, Doug Bentley, comments: “Over the past six months we have dedicated time and investment to improve our Cat Fast Track Cat development techniques in order to meet and exceed current UK industry standards. We see that OBD compliance will become a larger issue in the aftermarket sector in the coming years as more and more cars rely on them. Klarius can lead the way in quickly producing catalytic converters that meet the evolving specifications of modern car models, and the long term needs of the driver. We increasingly recognise this as a key emissions product, and want to quickly supply parts that work and exceed customer expectations.”
