Goodyear Refunds Customers After “Unsubstantiated” Claims
Goodyear Tyres has issued an apology and offered refunds to Australian customers who purchased the company’s Eagle LS2000 range, following the manufacturer’s unsubstantiated claims about the tyres’ environmental friendliness. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission had investigated and found misleading or deceptive the company’s claims that the range was “environmentally friendly”, had “minimal environmental impact”, could “improve fuel economy” and that its production process resulted in “reduced carbon dioxide emissions.
Goodyear has subsequently withdrawn all materials making these claims from media releases, their Australian website and sales materials in Goodyear Autocare Centres throughout the nation. In conclusion, the Goodyear website apologised to customers, adding: “Goodyear Tyres wishes to draw your attention to the fact that the environmental representations it made in respect of the Eagle LS2000 tyre could not be substantiated.
“Goodyear Tyres apologises to its consumers and invites any consumer who has purchased the Goodyear Eagle LS2000 tyre between 1 February 2007 and 31 March 2008, who relied on the representations to seek a partial refund, based on the date of purchase of the tyre by 1 November 2008.”
