Donnell & Ellis Plump for ATS Euromaster
Omagh-based Donnell & Ellis Heavy Haulage have signed a contract to make ATS Euromaster the company’s sole tyre service provider.
The contract, said to be worth close to £100,000 per year, is aimed at providing the company with proactive tyre management as a measure against unexpected vehicle downtime. In addition, the agreement sees a fleet-wide change of preferred brand; ATSE are fitting Michelin tyres on its 30 Scania tractor units, and Hankook tyres on 60 specialist trailers, some of which have a payload capacity of up to 200 tonnes.
MD William Donnell explains that the decision has come on the back of ATSE’s performance with regard to the company’s trailer fleet over the past 6 months: “Since ATS Euromaster took over responsibility for our trailer fleet at the end of 2007 we’ve noticed a 50 per cent reduction in the number of tyre-related breakdowns we experience, which adds up to a huge saving in terms of time and money. On the back of this positive performance we’ve appointed them to supply and service the tyres across our tractor fleet as well.”
Donnell also notes the proactive approach taken by ATSE – taking the opportunity to inspect all tyres when changing a tyre – in terms of the company’s motivation in signing the new deal.
The new tyre policy will see all Michelin tyres fitted across the 6×2 and 6×4 tractor unit fleet regrooved by ATSE once the tread depth has worn down to approximately 3mm. Once the regrooved tyre has worn, ATSE will fit a new Michelin tyre and the original casing is sold back to Michelin for processing through its remoulding factory in Stoke-on-Trent – with the casing value offset against the cost of the new tyre.
