Kwik-Fit to Open Distribution Centre in Corby
A new £10 million Kwik Fit distribution centre is planned for the Northamptonshire town of Corby, and according to the company it will be operational by mid-July. The facility, to be managed by Ceva Logistics UK, will employ more than 200 drivers, distributors and administrative staff.
“The tyres are just starting to arrive at the centre and distribution will begin in stages,” said Kwik-Fit marketing and business development director Chris Bosworth. He added that some 40 trucks will operate out of the facility, with another 34 from satellite depots nationwide.
“It’s a totally new venture for us and what we are aiming to provide is getting the right tyres to customers on the right day,” he added. “It used to be straightforward but with so many new models of cars all with different tyres, we need enough space to be able to store them all.”
Operating costs, and the facility’s environmental footprint, will be minimised through the co-ordination of the truck fleet and ensuring none are on the road empty. “The trucks will be taking tyres to our Kwik Fit outlets but on the same journey they’ll be collecting used tyres and bringing them back to the base,” commented Bosworth. The used tyres will be converted to play surface chips.
“We’re very excited about our new depot and Corby’s a great location for us to be,” added Mr Bosworth. “We’ll be taking more workers on as and when we are ready and there is a great potential for more growth at the site.”
