Goodyear Raises £40,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital
Goodyear Dunlop UK has raised over £40,000 for the Red Balloon Appeal at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and has just pledged to raise a further £50,000. Chosen by the staff as the official charity partnership back in March 2007, the Red Balloon Appeal was given a significant boost when Goodyear Dunlop contributed over £40,000 to the new children’s Burn Centre – a brand new state-of-the-art development, serving over half the population in the UK.
In March this year, Goodyear Dunlop staff decided to make a further commitment to the Red Balloon Appeal, by undertaking to raise £50,000 over 18 months for a new Child and Adolescent Mental Health Play area.
Paul O’Connor, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Chief Executive explained the importance of this pledge: “There is currently no provision for a safe outside play for these patients, where they can not only let off steam and use up their energy, and also learn the values of sharing, working in a team and being a good winner and/or loser. Without this commitment from Goodyear Dunlop, our patients would need to wait until the total money has been raised, and that could easily take a year.”
Mark Brickhill, Goodyear Dunlop UK Group Managing Director said: “We are only too pleased to support the Hospital as it moves on with its Red Balloon Appeal. We have really enjoyed supporting the Burn Centre and have seen first hand the difference this fantastic new Centre is making. As a company that promotes family safety, it made perfect sense to support them in this safe play project and continue our legacy at the Hospital.”
