Goodyear Introduces New NA Truck Tyres
Goodyear has added two new tyres to its North American regional truck tyre product portfolio. The company is introducing the Unisteel G149 RSA RH tyre for on-highway regional service and the Unisteel G150 HSA for school bus and city or neighbourhood driving.
The two tyres, with their differing intended applications, replace a single tyre. Steve McClellan, vice president of Goodyear commercial tyre systems, said, “Two is better than one, particularly when customers formerly had to use one tyre to do it all. In this case, we have focused each tyre on specific applications to better serve our customers with enhanced performance and treadwear.”
McClelland points out, for example, that the tread pattern for the G149 RSA RH is “tuned” for longer wear on urban streets and highway driving, while the G150 HSA uses special compounds for high-scrub applications used on school buses and in local pickup and delivery service. The G150 HSA also features sidewall protector ribs that help resist sidewall damage from the sharp turns and curbs encountered in neighbourhood driving, he added.
Bruce Woodruff, Goodyear marketing manager for regional and light-truck commercial tyres, said both all-position tyres, available in 11R22.5 sizes in G and H load ratings, feature circumferential grooves and lateral blades that help displace water for confident driving on rain-soaked roads. In addition, Woodruff said that the tread footprint was modified for enhanced wear evenness and to help lower overall cost-per-mile. “The G149 RSA RH and G150 HSA tyres are both important additions to our regional line-up. The tread design and compounding are application-specific to help enhance performance and add more miles to removal.”
The Unisteel casing features four full belts to help stiffen and support the tread, further resisting irregular wear. An enhanced belt compound helps tear resistance. “This translates into longer casing life and more retreads for the life of the tyre,” Woodruff added.
