Conquer the Asphalt with Federal and Hero
Taiwan’s Federal Tire has been in the business for more than half a century, and in recent times has become much involved in motorsports, especially in parts of Asia and the US, with an emphasis on drifting championships much in evidence. A hardcore base of motorsport fans always ensures a market for a tyre manufacturer’s high performance products, and in 2008 Federal Tire has several such ranges available under both the Federal and Hero brand names.
The Federal 595EVO is, says Federal, a state-of-the-art street competition tyre that will “conquer the asphalt.” This domination of the blacktop will take place courtesy of the 595EVO’s numerous features. One such feature is its water-dispersing tread design that incorporates what Federal calls “Groove within Groove” technology. The directional tread also incorporates a central rib for straight-line stability, four main grooves for effective water dispersal and large solid shoulder blocks for lateral grip and handling stability. Moving away from the tread area, the sidewall of the 595EVO is adorned with a scorching flame design that Federal reports will “add to the fierce look of your car.” And if this isn’t enough to make lesser mortals think twice about throwing down the street combat gauntlet, it must be noted that the tyre achieves its fierceness quietly, thanks to the tread’s 2-in-1 pitch alignment pattern, designed to reduce noise levels at high speeds.
The 595EVO is available in the following sizes: 275/30ZR20, 255/35ZR20, 245/40ZR20, 215/45ZR17, 255/45ZR17, 195/55R15, 205/55ZR16.
New and semi-slick, the 595RS-R is designed for sport competition, and Federal says this is a tyre that will deliver exceptional traction and grip. The manufacturer cites developments in design, construction, tread pattern and compound as instrumental to creating the qualities the 595RS-R is noted for – namely, those of a street legal competition tyre with the characteristics of a slick. This slick-like feel is facilitated by block stiffness that is evenly dispersed – those in the centre are every bit as stiff as those placed in the shoulder area, and this gives the added bonus of preventing irregular wear. The V-shaped directional tread pattern contains a main groove for water dispersal and additional wide-angled grooves to increase block stiffness, a design intended to further enhance grip and traction. The pattern name is engraved along the groove. The sidewall of the 595RS-R is reinforced for high-speed cornering and lap performance.
The 595RS-R is available in these sizes: 245/35ZR18, 255/35ZR18, 265/35ZR18, 235/40ZR17, 255/40ZR17, 225/40ZR18, 235/40ZR18, 205/45ZR16, 215/45ZR17, 225/45ZR17, 235/45ZR17, 195/50ZR15, 205/50ZR15, 205/50ZR16.
An evolution of the FD1, Federal’s new and improved Formoza FD2 is said to deliver all the performance and comfort features of its predecessor plus the latest innovation from the Federal Technology Center – D.P.E.T. (Disorder Pitch Evolution Theory). Federal reports that its D.P.E.T. reduces noise levels to a minimum while maintaining the tyre’s performance and handling capabilities. This latest tyre in the Formoza series thus, says Federal, provides a good level of performance and comfort you need, along with the “looks to crave for.” The Formoza FD2 tread contains variable sub-grooves in the shoulder blocks to further reduce impact noise for improved noise comfort, a 3-in-1 groove design to reduce the effect upon drivers of vibrations and other high frequency disturbances, a wide and solid central rub for increased straight-line stability, and wide circumferential grooves for rapid water dispersal.
The Formoza FD2 is available in the following size dimensions: 225/40ZR18, 255/40ZR19, 205/45ZR16, 215/45ZR17, 235/45ZR17, 215/45ZR18, 225/50ZR16, 235/50ZR17, 195/55R15, 205/55ZR16, 215/55ZR16, 215/55ZR17, 225/55ZR17, 235/55ZR17.
The latest high performance offering from the Hero brand is the Milanza HZ-1, a UHP tyre Federal says was developed from racing tyre technology and suitable for the most demanding drivers and cars. According to Federal, this is a tyre that promises, and delivers, much: the V-shaped directional tread – an aggressive pattern, comments Federal – is paired with a silica compound to provide steering stability, resistance to aquaplaning and control in acceleration, cornering and braking under extreme conditions. In Federal’s own words, the Hero Milanza HZ-1 has “radical looks combined with the performance to match.”
The Milanza HZ-1 is available in the following sizes: 205/40ZR16, 215/40ZR17, 195/45R15, 195/45R16, 205/45ZR16, 205/45ZR17, 215/45ZR17, 225/45ZR17, 235/45ZR17, 245/45ZR17, 195/50R15, 195/50R16, 205/50R15, 205/50ZR16, 225/50ZR16, 185/55R14, 185/55R15, 195/55R15, 205/55R16, 215/55R16, 225/55R16.
