VTS Testing 2 New Beaded Edge Tyres
Vintage Tyre Supplies is the process of testing two new Waymaster Cord beaded edge tyres. Recognising that beaded edge products are increasing hard to come by, it apparently was an easy decision for the company to begin making its own products for this niche segment. “It seemed quite natural for us to take the brave step and develop our own brand, the,” company representatives reported in a customer newsletter.
The two new tyres currently being tested are: 760 x 90 and 895 x 135, which will soon be added to the range which also includes: 710×90, 810×90, 815×105, and 820×120.
After securing a manufacturer, the next challenge for the company was how to test the tyres. “Initially we made use of a 1904 De Dion, but it was simply not practical. Of course our tyres are always tested by the manufacturers to at least ECE30, but for such unusual tyres we wanted to go one step further; particularly as we felt that drum tests only test the tyre in one plane,” the newsletter continued.
Inspired by an evening at the local Pub, VTS decided to make a test wheel which enabled the company to fit a 710×90 beaded edge tyre to the front of a new Nissan truck! The test started with a 25 mile drive at maximum pressure up to speeds of around 30mph. “We then went on to drive around a set course decreasing the pressure by 5psi every 20 cycles, to find out when dislodgment would occur. Tests were also carried out on other manufacturer’s products to form a comparison, and ensure that the Waymaster Cord matched and in many cases exceeded the standards they set,” VTS managing director, Chris Marchant commented.
