Kumho Continues as Zandvoort Masters of Formula 3 Sponsor
During the weekend of 8 -10 August, top Formula 3 drivers will once again race on Kumho tyres at Zolder, following tyre supplier Kumho’s decision to commit to the event as title sponsor. The “Zandvoort Masters of Formula 3” is Europe’s only race featuring the best Formula 3 drivers from the various championships.
“Of course, this is still a temporary solution, because Zandvoort is the natural homebase for the Masters, like the name already indicates”, says Erik Weijers, C.O.O. of Circuit Park Zandvoort. “The idea of the Masters was born at Zandvoort and the event has built up its strong history here from the very first edition in 1991 onwards. Because of the limited number of so-called ‘noise days’ that we have at Zandvoort, we have to escape to Zolder. Of course, the facilities and the support we are getting there is excellent. Zolder surely is the best possible alternative in that respect.”
Weijers is pleased with the support from Kumho, extending a co-operation that has been in place for many years. “For us, Kumho is a strong partner that is actively supporting us in many ways”, he says. “After last year’s event, Kumho has expressed its confidence in the strength of the Masters again and we are very happy with that.”
During the “Zandvoort Masters of Formula 3”, the best drivers from the ranks of the Formula 3 Euro Series and the British Formula 3 championship will race each other. Success at the Masters is an important boost for any young up-and-coming driver. Former Masters-winners like David Coulthard, Pedro Lamy, Jos Verstappen, Norberto Fontana, Takuma Sato, Christian Klien and Lewis Hamilton all made it into Formula 1. Last year’s winner, German Nico Hülkenberg, caught the attention of the teams in the sport’s premier league as well. He has been signed as a test driver of the Williams F1-team, but is also taking on another season in the Formula 3 Euro Series.
