CM Drawing Upon Decades of Experience
Columbus McKinnon, a company that manufactures a broad line of material handling products for use in a host of industries, has been building shredders specifically designed to meet the requirements of the tyre recycling industry since 1982. All aspects of the recycling processed can be accommodated by Columbus McKinnon produced machinery, from pre-shredding oversized tyres through to the delivery of wire-free crumb rubber – and the company proudly claims the equipment it produces has helped it become a recognised leader for the highest production, best chip quality, and lowest operating costs.
Each Columbus McKinnon system is designed to provide the cleanest cuts in the industry, leaving no exposed steel wires. This attention to chip quality, a critical concern given the market specifications limiting the amount of wire permitted to protrude from a tyre chip, is the result of the company’s patented knife design, which CM says provides the closest knife-to-knife tolerances in the industry. Since the Columbus McKinnon system uses the highest grade of steel alloy knives, operators can look forward to continued high quality chip output.
As a corporation with a heritage stretching back to 1875, the role Columbus McKinnon has played in the development of tyre recycling machinery cannot be overlooked. The company’s original tyre shredder from 26 years ago was, at the time, the only shredder designed with the sole purpose of shredding steel belted car and truck radials with the bead wire intact. Since those early days, Columbus McKinnon reports selling more than 120 tyre shredders in ten national markets.
