New WRC Tyre Specifications in 2008
As Pirelli begin its role as single supplier WRC for the news three years, beginning with the 2008 season, the Italian manufacturer has announced the following rule changes the FIA has made affecting tyres. The teams will be supplied with three particular types of tyres – one for each different race surface encountered during the rally tour. These are: The P-Zero – for tarmac rallies; the Scorpion – for gravel surfaces; and the Sottozero is ice and snow races.
The P-Zero will be available with two types of compound, including a softer mix to improve performance in the wet. The Sottozero will be available with two different types of patterns, with one specifically designed for snow and the other for icy conditions. The FIA’s decision to ban tyre mousse comes into effect in 2008.
