London Tyre Shop Destroyed by Blazing Van
A tyre dealership in South London has been destroyed following what appears to be a premeditated case of arson. Fire spread through Brixton’s Turbo Tyres early on Friday November 30 after a white Luton van was reportedly driven into the premises and set alight. Thirty firefighters worked for two hours to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring flats. Numerous windows in these homes were blown out by an explosion that came from within the tyre shop, and some 75 local residents were evacuated from the area.
Although nobody was injured in the blaze, the damage to Turbo Tyres has been substantial. Owner of the business, Mr. Janljit Shonpad, spoke to local media about his sense of devastation over what had occurred. “This is the shop where my living comes from,” he commented. The Metropolitan Police are seeking information from persons in the vicinity of Acre Lane, Brixton at around 2am on November 30; anyone who saw the abovementioned Luton van or has any other information are encouraged to call Brixton CID on 020 8649 2173.
