Bridgestone Develops Thinnest Flexible Displays
First Bridgestone developed Electronic Liquid Powder, in 2002. Then in October 2004 Bridgestone became the first in the world to develop electronic paper for use as electronic price tags that retain their images after the electrical power has been turned off. Now Bridgestone has succeeded in the development of full-colour A3 displays – surpassing the previous world record of A4.
The displays offer a resolution of 75dpi, and gradation control enables 4,096-colour displays. While retaining the traditional properties of high visibility, wide viewing angle and memory, the new electronic paper can be displayed in large A3 size in full colour. It is therefore expected to have broad application in the realm of advertising.
At 0.29mm in thickness, it is the world’s thinnest flexible full-colour display as reflective electronic paper using a simple matrix drive in the eight-inch size class. Bridgestone developed flexible electronic paper in May 2006 that enables two-color display. This time, a new colour filter has been added to this.
