Apollo Tyres to Spread AIDS Message in December
In addition to being a tyre manufacturer Apollo Tyres operates a number of health clinics in India – at present seven are in operation and further establishments are planned. Through this healthcare connection Apollo plans to commemorate World AIDS Day, December 1, 2007, at all its manufacturing locations and clinics through a week-long series of activities.
The activities consist of mobile and poster exhibitions on HIV-AIDS, street and role plays, puppet and magic shows, audio-visual displays, the issuing of red ribbons, signature campaigns, information kiosks, and HIV-AIDS centred quizzes and games. These activities will be carried out at the company’s manufacturing locations in Kerala and Gujarat and its Apollo Tyres Health Care Clinics near Coimbatore, Jaipur, Kanpur, Navi Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi and Udaipur. While the manufacturing locations are geared for activities that provide greater employee education and awareness, the clinics are taking different routes to reach their target audience; an example given by the tyremaker is that of its New Delhi Clinic, which will have its very own “condom man” walking around providing information.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Neeraj R S Kanwar, JMD and COO of Apollo Tyres said, “In keeping with our vision of providing stakeholder value, our HIV-AIDS awareness programmes for our employees, the community and the trucking community, is continuously looking to spread awareness amongst a larger group of people, thereby making a difference to India’s health and economy. Through this week’s activities we hope to reach out to an ever-growing base of stakeholders.”
