Beaurepaires Indroduces ‘Climate Neutral’ Tyres to Australia
One of Australia’s largest tyre retailers, Beaurepaires, is calling on motorists to help reduce the environmental impact of their cars and tyres through the use of climate neutral tyres. For the first time, Australian motorists can purchase climate neutral tyres at no extra cost thanks to the Beaurepaires Climate Neutral campaign the retailer is running across its 300-store national network during October.
If the 11 million passenger vehicles on Australian roads were fitted with climate neutral tyres, more than 10.5 million tonnes of CO² emissions could be prevented from entering our atmosphere. This is equivalent to the volume of 2.3 million Olympic sized swimming pools or more than 1.6 million households switching to clean energy for one year.
Beaurepaires has also produced a set of tips to help motorists reduce the environmental impact of their cars and tyres on a day-to-day basis. Managing director and CEO of Beaurepaires, Judith Swales, urged motorists to do their bit to lessen the environmental damage caused by their vehicles.
“We’re all acutely aware of the impact of our cars on the environment, and we’re more aware than ever before of the pressing need to preserve our environment in the face of global warming and climate change,” Ms Swales said.
“There are simple steps that every motorist can take to reduce the environmental impact of their cars and tyres by lowering carbon dioxide emissions. There are more than 14 million registered vehicles in Australia, and if all motorists followed these steps, the environmental fallout of our love affair with cars could be greatly reduced.
“A further benefit is that by following Beaurepaires’ tips and getting involved in our CO² reduction campaign motorists can also save money by using less fuel,” she said.
The climate neutral tyres have been made available through Beaurepaires’ partnership with Climate Friendly, a leading Australian emissions neutralising company. The partnership has created a completely climate neutral tyre option for the first time in Australia – at no extra cost to the consumer.
When a customer buys a selected silica tyre at Beaurepaires throughout October, Beaurepaires will purchase the equivalent amount of high-quality renewable energy credits from Climate Friendly, thereby neutralising the emissions caused by the tyre’s production.
Climate Friendly analysed the total quantity of greenhouse gas emissions embodied in Beaurepaires silica tyre range, and by purchasing the equivalent amount of carbon credits, Beaurepaires ensures that the emissions from the tyres are not contributing to increasing levels of emissions in our atmosphere.
On this occasion, the Beaurepaires Climate Neutral tyre offer supports a new wind farm project in northern China. The 30 MW project is made up of 40 sets of wind turbines on the Wolungtu Mountains in the province of Hebei near the Mongolian border.
Climate Friendly director and founder Joel Fleming said Beaurepaires had taken a leadership role on climate change by introducing Australia’s first Climate Neutral tyre. “By making it easy and affordable for customers to choose a Climate Neutral product, Beaurepaires is demonstrating that any company in any sector can follow its lead and be part of the solution to climate change,” Mr Fleming said.
“The Beaurepaires Climate Neutral tyre offer is an innovative approach that enables anyone to make a choice to reduce their emissions in their everyday lives.”
