Ross Thompson Trials Michelin XTE2
Newry-based Ross Thompson Ltd, a long established haulier in Northern Ireland, is currently monitoring the performance of the Michelin 385/65 R22.5 XTE2 tyres on the rear axle of one of its Crossland tanker trailers. Fitted as original equipment in early 2006, the tyres have already clocked up 175,000 km and still have 3-4mm of tread remaining. Over 90 per cent of the company’s fleet is fitted with Michelin tyres as original equipment.
Ivan Mateer, Managing Director of Ross Thompson, explains: “We treat every new purchase as an investment from which we expect a decent return, and this means ensuring the original package is of the highest quality and is a real priority for us.”
Ross Thompson operates a fleet of three rigids, 12 tractor units and 35 trailers, with each of the articulated vehicles plated to 44 tonnes. The fleet is on the road up to six days a week, with each vehicle covering approximately 120,000 km a year, travelling through Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
The company has operated a Michelin policy for over 10 years.
