Maxxis Supermaxx in Silverstone Group Test
The popular Maxxis Supermaxx, a ZR rated Sports/Touring motorcycle tyre, now in its third generation, has demonstrated its credentials in a group test at Silverstone. An instructor from California Superbike School put the Supermaxx through its paces using a race specification Suzuki GSXR1000 (2007 model). In good weather conditions he completed 100 miles at race speeds on the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit.
“Silverstone is a fast, flat racetrack where cornering speeds can reach up to 140mph and 170mph-180mph is the norm on the quickest straights,” said Maxxis International UK managing director Derek McMartin.
“A racetrack may not be the most appropriate environment in which to evaluate a Sports/ Touring tyre, but so many riders now attend track days and expect their tyres to perform as well at these events as they do in everyday road use, that we felt it was a good opportunity to see how the Supermaxx would stand up if pressed really hard.”
The tester reported that the Supermaxx had performed well above his expectations and was comparable to the Bridgestone BT-020, while he considered it unlikely that the average rider would be able to exceed the tyre’s capabilities in typical street use.
Maxxis also tested a new stable mate for the Supermaxx which, although it remains under wraps for now, posted some extremely impressive results and early indications are that it will be a very desirable addition to the company’s motorcycle range.
