Maul Scrap Tyres with a Grizzly

The US manufacturer of recycling equipment Granutech-Saturn Systems and its Cheshire based dealer/distributor BTR Group are working together to provide equipment and design expertise to tyre processors throughout the UK. Their latest sales and installations include:

Wheeldon Brothers
With the goal of making steel free granules smaller than 15mm from whole truck and car tyres, Bury’s Wheeldon Brothers Waste commissioned a two-stage process Granutech-Saturn tyre granulation system. The system features a Saturn Model 60-44BGHT tyre shredder with 300hp hydraulic drive system and the Granutech Model 80 Grizzly, a stage-two grinder that effectively separates steel from the tyre rubber while keeping operating costs at a minimum. Plans are currently in the works to expand the processing side of the system to reduce material to as small as 0.5mm.

Crumb Rubber Ireland
With the addition of more automation and expanded granulation capacity via new Granutech powderizers, Crumb Rubber Ireland has re-commissioned their tyre recycling plant and expanded capacity following a fire in 2006. The new facility brings the complete plant under one roof for easier operation and control. New auto feed systems for their two Grizzly Grinders improve production while minimising operator interface. The company’s Saturn Shredder has also been arranged as a “stand alone” operation, allowing the shredding process to function independent of the granulation system.

Kingpin Remoulds
Following the successful implementation of their first Granutech Grizzly — in operation since 2001— Kingpin Remoulds, in Shrewsbury, has installed their second Grizzly – a Model 80 – to meet rising product demand. With the second Grizzly and other plant upgrades, Kingpin expects to more than double their current production of steel free chips sized below 15mm. Future expansion plans include addition of finer grinding machinery and possibly adding moulding machinery to produce finished goods.

Angel Auto Salvage
BTR has sold one of the first latest design Granutech-Saturn Grizzly Grinders, a Model 50, to Angel Auto Salvage in Wales. The new unit, which features a compact 127 cm cutting chamber and 200hp motor, is slated to work alongside a Saturn 62-40HT Shredder to create steel free granules smaller than 15mm. It is scheduled to ship in late September and commence operation shortly afterward.
