Italian Connection
Visitors to May’s Brityrex exhibition and the CV show were amongst the first in the UK to be given a first hand demonstration of the latest wheel balancer on offer from Apaseal – the Corghi EM7440. This product from the renowned Italian firm features an ergonomic design and a wide flat surface area, which Apaseal claims is ideal for accommodating any required weights and accessories. The unit’s adjustable display utilises on-screen piezoelectric touch sensitive technology, allowing for user-friendly operation and eliminating the need for a keyboard that would take up workspace otherwise put to better use.
The EM7440 has a 40mm diameter shaft that extends from the balancer across the distance of the flange face. The shaft can carry a maximum load of 75kg even without the unit being affixed to the ground. Balancing speeds start from a low launch speed of 70rpm, with 85 and 98rpm also available. The low balancing speed minimises wheel spin times, thereby saving energy and reducing strain on rotating components. Rim diameters up to 30 inches and widths of up to 20 inches can be accommodated.
Wheel rotation can be performed in either direction, and the EM7440 automatically positions the wheel at the end of the launch cycle. The unit includes the popular “ALU-P” software, which provides for the measurement of distance and diameter and for adhesive weight application using the EM7440’s automatic sensors.
Also on hand at Brityrex was one of Apaseal’s top of the line tyre changers, the Corghi Artiglio Master 26, an ideal product for a market in which wheel sizes are constantly changing. Wheel diameter can be electronically preset into the Master 26, automatically repositioning all the tools to be used in the tyre changing procedure. The bead breaker disc then automatically begins the process of separating the tyre from the rim, applying pressure in a controlled manner. And when the job is done, the integrated pneumatically operated wheel lift will lower the wheel and be ready to position the next one. According to Apaseal, the unit’s new “MI Powered System” motors keeps torque on the turntable constant by self-adjusting when under stress, a great boon for those working with run-flat or low profile tyres.
