Eurostone from NDI –Tyres for Wet or Dry Winters
Nordisk Dæk Import AS (NDI) is a major supplier of tyres and wheels to European markets. The Danish company was established in 1970 and today its headquarters in the town of Brørup occupy more than 56,000 square metres of office and warehouse space. The company boasts a sizeable presence in its home market of Denmark – throughout the country NDI also operates nine strategically located branches and 50 company owned “Super Dæk Service” retail outlets, employing a total of approximately 750 people.
The company also produces wheels to order for industrial and agricultural applications, specialising in adapting rims to individual customer’s requirements. A third related field in which NDI operates is retreading. The company’s retreading subsidiary, Euroband, is Denmark’s largest manufacturer of retreaded tyres for trucks, buses, tractors and earthmovers. The Euroband facility is also located in Brørup.
And NDI has by no means restricted its activities to Denmark. The company has established a presence in a number of European markets, and organises several shipments per week to many European countries. According to NDI export manager Carsten Andersen, the main markets in which NDI operates branches are Sweden, Norway, the UK and Germany.
More than a decade has passed since NDI exported its first tyres to the UK, and Mr. Andersen reports that UK sales continue to grow year by year. In addition to the company’s own UK outlet NDI also sells to a number of other wholesalers, who purchase everything from PCR through to OTR tyres. Included in this diverse product offering is NDI’s own private brand, Eurostone.
Winter tyres form a key part of the Eurostone line-up in the UK. The Sirius range from Eurostone is aimed at the passenger car market, and is a product that may well provide a solution to those who have previously shied away from cold weather tyres on the grounds that the UK has no “real” winter as such. NDI point out that the European made Sirius range – unlike the winter tyres offered by some other manufacturers – are designed for all winter conditions, not just snow and rain. The tread pattern on the Sirius is unidirectional and features extensive siping on both the shoulder and centre sections, as well as grooves that can amply accommodate those times when winter throws the wet stuff our way. The tread elements and cold weather compound combine to create a tyre NDI is confident provides a high degree of stability plus excellent steering and braking characteristics in both wet and dry conditions.
